Introducing The Approved Franchise Association We have lots of plans for the future …

The Approved Franchise Association, or the AFA as it’s known, was born in 2012. I’ve been the CEO since June 2015, but have been closely associated with the organisation from the very early stages …

The Approved Franchise Association has been around since 2012 and has tight rules on membership.

The AFA is dedicated to promoting the highest possible standards and provides a fresh approach to supporting the continued success and growth of the franchise industry in the United Kingdom.

“Most of you will know I’m also a franchisor myself!”

And I have been for the last six years with my other company Extra Help. It’s a home help and domestic cleaning franchise growing area by area throughout the country and it offers domestic services to anyone who needs them, from the elderly and new parents to working professionals.

My passion for franchising has grown immensely within this time which is why I became interested in working with the Approved Franchise Association and was honoured to become the CEO.

The number of businesses choosing to franchise over recent years has increased dramatically and across a range of sectors. With only one other franchise association in the industry, many were left with little or no choice for franchisor representation and collective membership.

Franchisors wishing to join the AFA must be able to demonstrate that their organisation meets the fundamental requirements of any successful franchise. They must be able to clearly demonstrate that their business is sustainable, viable, transferrable and above all ethical.

What does the AFA give to its members? The most important part is accreditation. A lot of potential franchisees ask if we, Extra Help, are members of an association and it’s great to be able to say “Yes! The AFA!” so confidently.

The AFA have tight rules on membership. A franchise company has to have been trading for at least a year and have submitted accounts to HMRC. We look at their franchise prospectus and associated figures for the franchise, we also contact a couple of the company’s existing franchisees for testimonials.

“We have lots of plans for the future!”

The main focus at present is our franchise exhibition, being held in Milton Keynes on Thursday 20th October. This exhibition is aimed at the smaller franchise company offering affordable exposure to an audience of potential franchisees.

If you’d like to find out more about the AFA, our up and coming exhibition or are interested in joining as a member, call us on 0208 088 2400, send us an initial email enquiry or visit our website to find out more.

Until next time …
